Philly Cheesesteak Egg RolLs

Philly cheesesteaks are one of my favorite sandwiches so I decided to take it to the next level. I knew that I wanted to deep fry it in some way, but I wasnt sure until I passed by some egg roll wrappers in the freezer section of the grocery store. Then I had an ahhhh haaaaaa moment! These egg rolls are cheesy and flavorful. For this recipe, I used sirloin steak since they are tender and can hold the flavor while being fried. You could also use sliced ribeye steak if you are not a fan of sirloin. For the cheese, I used pepper jack since it gives the egg rolls a slight kick of spice and it melts really well. Feel free to use provolone, white american or white cheddar cheese. Of course a good philly cheesesteak has peppers and onions, so I diced to add a few inside.

Add 2 tbsps of butter to a saute’ pan. Season the steaks with salt and pepper.

Add the seasoned steaks to the hot pan. Cook 5 minutes per side.

Let the steak rest on a cutting board for 10 minutes. Letting your steak rest allows the juices to flow throughout the steak so it will remain moist. If you cut a steak too soon after cooking, the juices will go onto the cutting board and your steak will be dry. Once your steak has rested, cut into thin slices. Add garlic salt to the sliced steak and toss. You want to make sure the steak is seasoned well.

Add 1 tbsp of butter to a pan. Once melted, add the diced onion and bell peppers. Cook until the vegetables have soften.

Grab a cutting board or baking sheet and place one egg roll wrapper down in a diamond shape. Add one slice of pepper jack cheese.

Add 1 tsp of onions and bell peppers and 5-6 slices of steak. If you want your egg rolls really cheesy, add additional slice of cheese on top of the onions and bell peppers..

It’s time to roll! Fold in the left and right corners of the wrappers to the middle. Then take the bottom corner, fold and tuck around the steak mixture. Then roll until it is tight. Once it is tightly rolled, fold the top corner over the egg roll. Add a little water to your finger and add to the wrapper to seal.

Repeat the same steps for all of the egg rolls.

In a skillet, fill half way with vegetable oil. Once the oil has reached a temperature of 350-375 degrees, carefully add 3-4 egg rolls. Depending on the size of your skillet, you may need to add 2-3. Don’t over crowd the skillet or you egg rolls will boil in the grease instead of fry. Cook for 3 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown.
