Oven Baked Turkey Wings
Oven Baked Turkey Wings
If you need a good, easy, low maintenance, Sunday meal idea, this is it. Most turkey wings are smoked or smothered down, but they are also great seasoned and thrown in the oven. Its similar to cooking oven baked chicken but a little better and bigger. My favorite part of the wing is the wingette or “flat”. Whenever I baked my turkey wings, I baked the flats and reserved the drumettes for another dish. The best part of this dish is the gravy. It is made from the broth (juices) of the turkey wings. Grab 4 whole turkey wings and cut them in 3 parts. Discard the wing tips. You don’t have to only cook the flats like I did, you can cook all of the parts.
Coat the wings with 1 tbsp of vegetable oil. Season with 1 tbsp onion powder, 1 tbsp garlic powder, 1 tbsp cajun seasoning, 1 tsp garlic salt and 1 tbsp paprika. Make sure each piece is evenly coated.
Cover and put them in a 375 degree oven for 45 minutes and uncovered for 15 minutes.
Once you remove them from the oven, reserve 1/2 cup of broth from the cooked wings. We are going to use that in the gravy. In a sauce pan, add 2 tbsp of butter.
Once the butter has melted, add 1 tbsp of flour and whisk. Cook for 3 minutes or until the flour has cooked down and turned into a caramel color.
Add the 1/2 cup of turkey wing broth and whisk.
Pour 1/2 cup of chicken broth and stir. Cook until the gravy thickens.
Serve the turkey wings with mashed potatoes and top with the gravy. ENJOY!
