Monte Cristo w/ Raspberry Sauce
Monte Cristo w/ Raspberry Sauce
Anything deep fried is always going to be delicious. There is no exception whenever it comes to sandwiches. A deep fried sandwich…….yummy! That is what a Monte Cristo is, a fried sandwich. The name has a French origin that is a similar version of a Croque Monsieur, which is also a French sandwich but this one has Gruyere cheese or a bechamel sauce and only has ham. The Monte Cristo has ham, turkey and Swiss cheese. They are very similar. Another difference is the Monte Cristo is topped with powdered sugar and the Croque Monsieur is not. This is a quick and easy recipe! It is definitely not healthy, but this would be an excellent meal for cheat day. You can use any white bread, turkey or ham of your choice. I used the normal white bread and deli slices of ham and turkey. The first thing is to cut off the crust on the bread.
Assemble the sandwich and add one slice of ham, one slice of Swiss cheese, one slice of turkey and another slice of cheese. If your deli meat is sliced thin, use more than one slice. While you are assembling the sandwiches, add 2 -3 cups of vegetable oil to a frying skillet or a deep fryer. That way, the oil will be hot whenever you are done battering the sandwiches.
Slice the sandwiches in half by slicing diagonally. Add 2 toothpicks to each sandwich slice. This will keep the sandwiches together while battering.
For the batter, I used a breading mix provided by Butt That Chicken. You can use this breading for any of your frying needs and the best part about it is, you don’t have to add any additional seasoning. It is literally seasoned to perfection! Head over to www.buttthatchicken.com and get some NOW! I used 2 cups of the breading mix and added 1 cup of water to make a wet batter.
Dip the sandwiches in the batter and make sure they are fully coated.
Once the sandwiches are fully coated in the batter, remove the toothpicks and add the sandwiches to the hot oil.
Cook 2 minutes per side or until golden brown. Once cooked, set aside on a baking dish to drain any excess oil.
Once all of the sandwiches are cooked, in small pot, add 1 cup of raspberries and 1/3 cup of sugar.
Cook until the raspberries are smooth and the sugar has dissolved.
Pour the sauce into a strainer to remove the seeds. Strain the sauce into a bowl.
Top the sandwiches with powdered sugar and serve the raspberry sauce on the side. ENJOY!
