Crab Cakes w/Remoulade Sauce
Crab Cakes w/ Remoulade Sauce
I always thought that you could only get good crab cakes up North or at a restaurant. I never thought you could have great ones right at home! All you need is some goooooooood crab meat. The kind of crab meat you get will make a huge difference in this recipe. That is why you must use lump crab meat or it will not taste as good. Now, lump crab meat will cost you a little more, but it is definitely worth it. Lump crab meat are smaller pieces of jumbo lump and pieces of the body meat of the crab. Grab a good brand of lump crab meat and add to a bowl. Make sure you have a big enough bowl since additional ingredients will be added to it.
Dice 1/3 cup of red bell pepper and 1 tbsp of green onions.
To the crab meat, add 1 tbsp of mayonnaise, 1 egg, 1/4 cup bread crumbs, 1/3 cup red bell pepper, 1 tbsp creole mustard, 1 tbsp green onion, 1 tsp lemon juice and 1/2 tbsp Old Bay seasoning and mix well.
Form the mixture into golf ball size balls and then flatten.
In a skillet, add 1 tsp of vegetable oil. Once the oil is hot, add the crab cooks. Cook 3-5 minutes per side or until gold brown. Once they have browned, put a lid on top for 3-5 minutes to allow them to steam and cook more in the inside.
Now its time to make the remoulade sauce. Remoulade is Louisiana sauce with a mayonnaise base. In a bowl, add 1 tbsp mayonnaise, 1 tbsp ketchup, 1 tsp creole mustard, 1 tsp sweet relish, 3 dashes of hot sauce and 1/2 tsp of Old Bay seasoning.
Mix well and serve with the crab cakes. ENJOY!
