Beef Stroganoff
Homemade Beef Stroganoff
The first time I had beef stroganoff it was the boxed kind with ground beef added to it. It was ok, but I knew it could be better using beef chucks instead of ground beef. I love the rich, hearty, stick to your bones feel that beef stroganoff gives you. This is definitely a comfort food because you will go to sleep after eating this. You will feel right at home! Its not one of my quick dishes since the beef takes a while to cook down and get tender but I promise it is worth it! This recipe calls for 1lb of beef stew meat.
Add the beef to a bowl and season with 1 tbsp garlic powder, 1 tbsp onion powder, 1 tsp salt and 1 tsp of pepper. Add 1/3 cup flour and mix together.
In a pot, add 1 tbsp of oil. Once the oil is hot, add the beef meat. Cook until all of the pieces have browned.
While the beef is browning, dice 1 cup of white onion and slice 1 cup of mushrooms. You can use the pre-sliced mushrooms as well.
Once the beef has browned, add the onions and mushrooms. Cook for 3-5 minutes or until the veggies have softened. Add 3 cups of beef broth and add the beef meat back to the pot.
Cover and cook for 45 minutes - 1 hour or until the beef is fork tender.
Add 2 tbsps of sour cream and stir well.
Serve the stroganoff over egg noodles or you could mix the egg noodles inside of the mixture. ENJOY!
