Philly Cheesesteak sliders

Philly Cheesesteak Sliders

Philly Cheesesteaks are one of my favorite sandwiches. Its meaty, cheesy and oh so good! The sandwich originated in south Philadelphia by Pat Olivieri who owns Pat’s King of Steaks. Of course whenever I visited Philadelphia, I ate cheesesteaks from both Pat’s and Geno’s. I was excited to say that I got to eat an authentic Philly cheesesteak! You know I had to make my own version. The authentic cheesesteak has Cheese Whiz on it. I am not a fan of Cheese Whiz on its own so I used white American cheese. You could also use Provolone cheese but I like the flavor of white American. For the steak, use 1 1/2 pounds of thinly sliced Ribeye or Sirloin. If you cant find a pre-packaged thinly sliced steak, you can cut your own.

Season the meat with 1 tsp garlic salt, 1 tsp onion powder and 1 tsp cajun seasoning. Make sure each piece is fully seasoned.

In a skillet, add 1 tbsp vegetable oil or olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add the steak to the skillet. Cook until the steak is fully cooked.

Remove the steak and set aside. Add 2 tbsp butter to the skillet. Slice 1 green bell pepper and 1/2 onion and add to the pan.

Once the veggies are cooked and have softened, add the steak back to the pan.

For this recipe, I used mini brioche buns but you could use King’s Hawaiian rolls as well. Cut the rolls in half and begin layering. Spread 1/3 cup of mayonnaise to the bottom layer of the rolls.

After the mayonnaise is on top, add a layer of white American cheese. Make sure to cover all of the bread, it should be about 7-8 slices. Add the meat and veggies on top of the cheese. Optional: add a few slices of jalapeños for added spice.

Add another layer of cheese on top of the meat and veggies. Add the top buns.

In a bowl, add 1 tbsp of butter and 1 tsp of minced garlic. Melt in the microwave. Once melted, spread on top of the slider buns.

Add to a 375 degree oven for 15-18 minutes or until the cheese has melted.

Remove from the oven and serve with chips to make a full meal. ENJOY!
