Red Velvet Swirl Brownies
Red Velvet Swirl Brownies
Brownies are one of my favorite desserts. They are always moist, portioned sized and delicious. I normally always put pecans or walnuts in my brownies so I wanted to do something different. I love red velvet, but you cant have red velvet without cream cheese. It only made sense to do a cream cheese swirl! These are easy and absolutely delicious to make! Start by getting your favorite chocolate brown store bought brownie mix. Feel free to make your own brownies from scratch, but this is an easy recipe so I used a store bought mix. With the brownie mix, to make it taste more homemade, I used melted butter instead of oil and used milk instead of water. Pour the mix in a bowl.
Beat 2 eggs in a separate bowl and add them to the brownie mix. Add 2/3 cup of whole milk and 3 tbsp of melted butter and mix well.
I like the “folding method” whenever I am making brownies or cake. Take a flat baking spatula and fold the ingredients together. This makes the brownies very moist.
Add 1 tsp of apple cider vinegar. Most red velvet recipes call for white vinegar but apple cider vinegar adds a sweetness. Mix well.
To the brownie mixture, add 1 oz of red food coloring. This will give the brownies a deep red color.
Pour into a greased 9x9 baking dish.
In a separate bowl, add 1 block of softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup sugar and 1/4 cup milk. Whisk very well. Feel free to use an electronic mixer for this step.
Grab a teaspoon and add a few dollops of cream cheese to the brownies. It does not have to be perfect. Put as much cream cheese as you would like. Make sure each area of the brownie has some cream cheese.
Using a butter knife, drag it down and up and to the side. This will give the brownies the “swirl look”.
Put into a 375 degree oven for 18-20 minutes or until the brownies are fully cooked. Stick a toothpick in the middle of the brownies to test if they are fully cooked.
Remove from the oven and cut into squares once they have cooled. Serve and ENJOY!
