Patty Melt
Patty Melt
Patty Melt’s are one of my favorite sandwiches to get at fast food restaurants. It’s salty, cheesy and a hint of sweetness from the caramelized onions, so delicious! I love making them at home since I can get creative with it. For this recipe I used white American cheese since it is a good melting cheese, but you could also use Swiss or Provolone. You could also add mushrooms to the sandwich to give it an added flavor. If you don’t want to use Texas toast, make sure you use a thick bread since it will need to hold up to the butter and added sauce. Another great substitution is ground turkey. Ground turkey works great with this recipe but I used ground beef. The first thing you want to do is thinly slice 1 white onion.
Melt 3 tbsp of butter into a pan. Once melted, add the onions. Cook on medium heat for 10-12 minutes, or until the onions are soft and have turned at light brown color.
In a bowl, add 1 1/2 lb of ground beef. Season with 1 tbsp garlic powder, 1 tbsp onion powder, 1 tbsp cajun seasoning, 1 tsp paprika and 1/3 cup of Worcestershire sauce.
Mix together and form them into baseball size balls.
Add the patties to a cast iron pan or griddle pan. Flatten the patties with your hands or a grill press.
Cook the patties 3-5 minutes on each side or until they are cooked to your desired temperature.
In a bowl, add 1 tbsp of mayonnaise, 1 tsp creole mustard, 1 tsp ketchup and 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce. Whisk well and set aside.
Spread softened butter on one side of the Texas toast. The side that does not have butter, assemble the patty melt. Add a layer of cheese, meat, cheese again, meat, caramelized onions, cheese and 1 tbsp of sauce.
Add the sandwich to a pan and flatten the sandwich using a spatula. Brown 1-2 minutes on each side or until the cheese is fully melted.
Serve with French fries and ENJOY!
