Cheeseburgers and hamburgers are considered America’s favorite food and I understand why. You can always get create with a hamburger and make it into your own. Hamburgers were created in the 1800s when someone put a meatball between 2 slices of bread. From then on, the hamburger has taken on many different versions and flavors. My husband loves bleu cheese and bacon on his hamburgers so I decided to get creative with it to make sure each bite that he takes, will have bacon and bleu cheese. When I first made these, he was totally obsessed so I knew that I had to share this recipe on my blog. As for the caramelized bacon, its just like caramelized onions but more flavor. Add 2 lbs of 80/20 ground beef to a bowl and season with 1 tbsp of onion powder, 1 tbsp garlic powder, 1 tbsp cajun seasoning and 1/3 cup of Worcestershire sauce and mix well.

To the ground beef, add 1 cup of bleu cheese crumbles. Feel free to add more if you would like. Mix well.

Form the ground beef into 4 baseball size balls and flatten them. You want them to be at least 1 inch thick.

Cook the patties in a skillet or griddle pan for 5-7 minutes on each side or until they are cooked at the temperature of your liking.

In a separate skillet, fully cook 1 pound of chopped bacon.

Once the bacon is fully cooked, remove from the skillet and set aside and drain any excess oil. Reserve 2 tbsps of bacon grease in the skillet.

In the skillet with the reserve bacon grease, add 1/2 chopped white onion and 1 tbsp of minced garlic. Cook for 3-5 minutes or until the onions have softened and turned a light brown color.

Add the cooked bacon to the skillet.

Add 1 tbsp of maple syrup, 1/3 cup of brown sugar and 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar and stir. Cook for 3-5 minutes or until the bacon has turned a dark brown color. Be careful not to burn it since sugar can burn easily. Once the bacon is fully caramelized, add 1-2 dashes of cayenne pepper for some added heat.

Assemble your burger and top with the caramelized bacon. Serve with french fries and ENJOY!
