Salmon rangoons

Salmon Rangoons

Anytime we are at an Asian restaurant and crab rangoons are on the menu, we have to order them. My husband normally eats majority of them and leave my daughter and myself one a piece, but hey, he loves them. I knew I wanted to make them at home but I am not huge fan of imitation crab so I wanted to do something different. I have seen how many people are deep frying salmon so they I knew, I wanted to incorporate salmon in the dish instead of crab. After this version, you might not go back to the imitation crab in the rangoons anymore. This recipe calls for 1 piece of salmon (1 lb). Season it with 1 teaspoon of garlic salt, 1 tsp of onion powder and 1 tsp of paprika.

In a pan, add 1 tbsp of butter. Once the butter has melted, add the salmon.

Cook the salmon for 5-8 minutes or until it is fully cooked. Shred the salmon into small pieces.

In a bowl, add 1 8 oz package of softened cream cheese, 1/3 cup of green onions, the shredded salmon and salt and pepper (to taste). Mix well and add 2 dashes of cayenne pepper for some added heat.

On a cutting board, add the wonton wrappers. Add 1 tsp of salmon mixture to the middle of the wonton wrapper. Rub water on the edges of the wonton wrapper. This will help to seal the wrapper. Push the sides of the wonton wrapper to the middle and make sure it is seal completely. If not, the mixture will fall out.

Add 2-3 cups of vegetable oil to a cast iron skillet. Once the oil has reached 350 degrees, add the rangoons. Cook 3-5 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove from the skillet and drain any excess grease.

Serve with a dipping sauce such as Thai sweet chili sauce and ENJOY!
