Cheesesteak Wontons
Cheesesteak Wontons
Recently, my family and I went to a restaurant and ordered some Cheesesteak Egg Rolls, which was weird because the restaurant used ground beef instead of steak. I figured it was because of inflation, but they were still delicious! The idea of deep fried steak and cheese is always a winner in my book. Since I already have my own recipe for Cheesesteak Egg Rolls on the blog, I wanted to do something different. I decided to make Wontons instead! They are pretty much the same in flavor but Wontons are smaller in size, which makes them the perfect appetizer! My hubby and daughter loved these and asked for me to make more that same day. I’m certain you and your family will love these as well. Start by cutting 1 lb of thinly sliced ribeye steak into small pieces.
Season with 1 tbsp of garlic powder, 1 tbsp of cajun seasoning and 1 tbsp of onion powder. Make sure the steak is fully seasoned.
Dice 1 green bell pepper and 1/2 of a white onion.
In a skillet, add 1 tbsp of vegetable oil. Once the oil is hot, add the sliced steak, onions and bell peppers. Add 6-8 dashes of Worcestershire Sauce to the meat and veggies.
Cook for 8-10 minutes or until the veggies are soft.
Since the meat and veggies are going inside of the small wonton wrappers, you want to make sure the meat is in small pieces. Using cooking shears, cut the steak into small pieces.
Add 6 or 7 slices of white American cheese to the steak mixture. Stir well until the cheese is fully melted.
Spoon 1 teaspoon of mixture into the middle of a Wonton wrapper. Fold into a triangle shape. Seal by adding water around the edges. Make sure they are fully sealed.
Repeat steps until all of the mixture is used. Should make about 30 wontons. Once the wontons are filled, brush each one with an egg wash (beaten egg and a splash of water mixed together).
Add 2-3 cups of vegetable oil to a cast iron skillet. Once the oil as reached a temperature of 350 degrees, add the wontons. Cook about 1 minute each batch (4-5 wontons) or until they are golden brown on each side. Be careful, they fry quickly and you don’t want them to burn. Repeat until all of the wontons are cooked. Add them to a baking rack to drain any excess oil.
Serve with your favorite dipping sauce. Serve and ENJOY!
